Heartstone Odyssey

Year 5 trip to the Town Hall

On Tuesday the 18th of June, ten year 5 ambassadors went to Croydon Town Hall to share their learning and discussions about their class reading - The Heartsone Odyssey. The book deals with the issues of racism, xenophobia and intolerance. The story is based on the heroine, Chandra, and the mice who become her friends. As well as being an adventure, it also deals with every aspect of hate crime and provides a route through which children aged 8-12 can understand what this means, how it manifests itself in everyday life.

Year 5 created some pieces of art linked to the book and the themes, which were displayed at the Town Hall on Tuesday. The deputy mayor of Croydon paid our display a visit, and the ambassadors were brilliant at talking through our artwork, ideas and suggestions on how to deal with intolerance. Well done year 5!
